The twelfth-century
Charterhouse of Žiče is now in ruins, but Carthusian monks occupy the younger Charterhouse of Pleterje near Šentjernej.
The Bistra Charterhouse at Vrhnika is now a museum. Many castles and monasteries were set afire during the Revolution in World
War II.
The famous
Pleterje collection of paintings, which was brought more than one hundred years ago chielfy from France, includes the original
works and copies of renowned masterpieces.
